Lynn Canyon in shades of grey Coriolistic Anachronisms - A Vancouver Blog

Hi, I'm your friendly Coriolibot (as in "ro-bot").

It would seem Vince (shame on him) hasn't posted a fresh entry in a couple of days, so I am here to keep you entertained no matter what!

The post below is a random entry that we hope you haven't read before. Regular current entries follow. Enjoy, and come back soon for brand new posts!

Note: this random entry is served on a per-visit basis and will change if you reload the page. It will also not show up on regular RSS, Feedburner and Twitter feeds.

Vintage! This is a random post. The year was 2006...

Having mentioned in an earlier post that the colors of fall were not in Vancouver what they are in the East, I then decided to prove myself wrong. I didn’t have to go very far. The trees lining my own street were quite nice already. Then there was John Hendry Park and Trout Lake, a few blocks away. There was the southeastern end of Stanley Park, and even Butzen lake, across from Deep Cove on the right side of Indian Arm. But I found the most mesmerizing colors at the VanDusen Botanical Gardens. See for yourself.

In the end, there are amazing fall colored trees everywhere in and around Vancouver. All we lack is the widespread forests of deciduous trees, ours being mostly evergreens.

In any case, if colors have a sound, then autumn must be a symphony.

    « You’ve made my day.
Reminds me of the Mtl Botanical Garden
in which I still miss sneaking at any
hour of the day or night.
Ceci dit, une promenade en vélo le long du Richelieu n’est pas mal non plus.

Ça se bouscule dans les couloirs.
Dur dur de ne plus savoir qui est qui. »

« Your photos are amazing! And I must say, the colours this fall are nothing like they have been the past few years, so capture up as many photos as you can while they’re still around! »

« Suggestion to all anonymous: award yourselves a number! (Anonymous1, etc.)

Rob: Thanks! So are you saying the past years were more colorful or less? »

  • 5.1 - Rob answers:

« In my opinion, the past few years were less colourful. Either that or we’ve had less rain this year, allowing the colours to stay around a little longer and soak up the sunshine. »

    « beautiful pictures! very impressive!

I’m going to Vancouver the 3rd week of Nov. Do you think there would still be red leaves? or a better question, where in vancouver would you recommand for taking photos?

    Thanks a lot!

  • 7.1 - Vince answers:

« I’m afraid the 3rd week of November is pushing it a little as far as the colors go... Why don’t you wait until February and get the cherry blossoms? ;-)

But unless red leaves are the only thing you’ll consider worth taking pictures of, Vancouver is a photographer’s dream. You’ll have to check out Stanley Park and the whole Seawall as a minimum. Then probably some of the North Shore parks like Lynn Canyon, Lighthouse Park or Grouse Mountain.

Email me if you’d like more info, I’ll be happy to help! »

As much as the creek can sparkle with color in summertime, it is turned by the snow into an almost surreal monochrome world.

So I’m sitting at Waves with my coffee, trying to figure out what’s wrong with the shot I originally liked most, and along comes Nicky. She glances at the picture opened in Lightroom and without even thinking twice about it, she smiles and waves (pardon the pun) a hand at the screen, saying I should crop it vertically to enhance the bridge. Of course, why didn’t I think of it earlier?

Now it’s really my favorite. ;-)

Et quelle différence entre les Maritimes et la Colombie britannique,
entre la côte est policée et douce, et la côte ouest sauvage et pleine de barbares...
