The Sex Lives of Cannibals Coriolistic Anachronisms - A Vancouver Blog

Hi, I'm your friendly Coriolibot (as in "ro-bot").

It would seem Vince (shame on him) hasn't posted a fresh entry in a couple of days, so I am here to keep you entertained no matter what!

The post below is a random entry that we hope you haven't read before. Regular current entries follow. Enjoy, and come back soon for brand new posts!

Note: this random entry is served on a per-visit basis and will change if you reload the page. It will also not show up on regular RSS, Feedburner and Twitter feeds.

Vintage! This is a random post. The year was 2005...

Every year in fall, the Montreal Botanical Garden hosts « The Magic of Lanterns », a dazzling exposition of lighted hand-made paper sculptures in the finest Chinese tradition. This year’s theme was « In the Kingdom of the Birds ». I’ve posted a few samples in the Traveling Colors gallery, also accessible directly via the thumbnails below.

02-12-08 Update: since the site redesign, the Traveling Colours page has been morphed with a newer Flash gallery and can be found here.

We now go back to current chronological entries:

)arrow I was recently reading a book when suddenly, hidden in the middle of a chapter, I recognized... Myself.

)oquote This would be me, I realized, if I remained in Kiribati any longer, a dissolute man untethered from his own land, a foreigner who has adapted to the queer realities of island life, but a foreigner always, disconnected from the world beyond the reef, and possibly from his own mind. )cquote

That’s a quote from « The Sex Lives of Cannibals » by J. Marteen Troost, an excellent story about life on an island, set in the Pacific but so completely pertinent here on Little Cayman. It’s a modern version of the classic « Don’t Stop the Carnival » and I strongly recommend it to anybody still nursing illusions about the island myth...

  • 1 - l'Antiboise says:

« eternal blue skies, white sands and faraway islands are not only myths and mirages, they carry an underlying but very strong message, at least for the people of northern regions. They symbolize the lost paradise for ever pursued and unobtainable. »
