Kruger Animals

Africa National Parks South Africa Wildlife

Photos of a 5,000 kilometer round-trip at the wheel of a good old Toyota Landcruiser V8 Turbo Diesel having taken us from Cape Town to the Kruger National Park, and back. The Kruger is part of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park, a peace park which straddles the northeastern border of South Africa into Zimbabwe and Mozambique. The Kruger itself covers 19,633 square kilometers (7,580 sq mi). Its subtropical climate and several decent size rivers make it a malarial-prone area – consume at one’s own risk. It is home to the Big Five, as well as over 140 species of mammals and 500 species of birds. A gallery of Kruger landscapes can be found here. The complete story is here.

  • Snowy Owls of Long Island January 8, 2022
Possibly because of online birding sites and sighting maps, the last few times I found snowy owls, many others had as well and the scene was a comically static porcupine of long lenses trained on a stubbornly pensive bird squatting somewhere on a patch of sand. Not this time around. I was still basing my […]
