African flowers

reply Hmm, Datura looks very similar to Brugmansia. Ooops, Wikipedia says they are closely related, hence the resemblance. I grow Brugmansia in the summer on my patio as an annual (zone 7 here). Had much better luck with that than I did with my poor fig tree.

reply No, you're right Karen, it is Brugmansia, I just checked. My fault. Datura no longer exists as a genus, and anyway, brugmansia is totally pendulous. It was funny Vince liking them - they grow in the open stretch of greenbelt that runs past my parents' house, as I grew up considering them an invasive weed (down there they are common). But of course many gardeners like them, and them smell very good, too. It makes you look at somethig with new eyes...
