Good old Murphy always lurks when one gets cocky. Ubuntu 11.04 is still too flaky and I am restoring 10.10.

Unrelated but to Murphy’s tricks, this web site’s server went down over an hour ago and I spent quite a while online waiting for a tech to investigate the issue. We were back in service around 9:05 AM. I apologize for the inconvenience if you visited during the outage. I guess my typo yesterday when I wrote “know on wood” instead of “knock on wood” will have jinxed it…

reply I'm so happy to see everyone having such fun fighting with my comment system... ;-) So far, it seems I am getting most of them, however I had set the blog to moderate the comments of first-time posters (first time on the new WordPress platform, that is), so comments would not have shown up until I approved them, which I have. But I agree that the notice that your comment has been queued for approval can easily be missed once you submit the comment, so I will change this shortly. Thanks again for the feedback!

I just love the last line in that film The Naked Civil Servant: "You can't touch me, I'm one of the..." [Left unfinished, I wouldn't want to spoil it for anyone who has not watched it yet.] If you like John Hurt as Quentin Chrisp, you should also look out the film Scandal. It depicts an infamous episode in British history and John Hurt is again brilliant as Stephen Ward. I'll let you get back to your testing now ;-)

reply Hi Vince, The version of the Naked Civil Servant I watch ended with a paraphrase of a Noel Coward song which worked on two levels for me. Not only did I find it amusing, but Noel Coward himself was gay. I originally watched the film in the UK many years ago when there was still quite a lot of anti-gay attitude about including official bodies. Linking the final words to Noel Coward used a well-liked establishment figure to hit out against the establishment. I'm sure the inclusion of these final words were deliberately chosen and not just a chance pun. As for the film Scandal, if you haven't watched it, and you are interested in British attitudes from the general period of the 1960s, it's an excellent film. Again, it works on two levels for me, it's not just entertaining, it's also takes a infamous episode in British political history indicative of the morals and attitudes that once existed. You might also like to seek out the 1984 if you haven't already seen it, another great film with John Hurt. I actually watched this one on the day of its official premier, in 1984... Cheers.
