What measures are taken to ensure the Pope's safety while he visits NYC?

This was shot at 6:58 PM tonight (12,800 ISO) from our Brooklyn garden as popular Pope Francis, visiting New York City, was holding a mass at Madison Square Garden. I kid you not.

Great shot. Funny to watch it above us, and to see no other airline traffic over this city, at all.

For those of us who are aviation buffs, this is a particularly stunning shot. Was the airspace over New York City closed during his Madison Square Garden address? When I flew into JFK the same day the Pope left, we flew what seemed to me an unusually complicated approach pattern...perhaps due to the 150 of so heads of state flying into the city that day? Thank you for looking upward and publishing this photograph, Leslie in Oregon

I did look for NOTAM's and seemed to find them for the next few days more then current, but JFK had a flight restriction 8 NM around the JFK VOR on the following morning, while PHL had an absolute no-fly for an hour or so... I probably missed something as there was no other traffic at the altitude these guys were cruising at (7,000 to 10,000 ft I would assume).
