Kruger

Africa National Parks South Africa

Photos of a 5,000 kilometer round-trip at the wheel of a good old Toyota Landcruiser V8 Turbo Diesel having taken us from Cape Town to the Kruger National Park, and back. The Kruger is part of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park, a peace park which straddles the northeastern border of South Africa into Zimbabwe and Mozambique. The Kruger itself covers 19,633 square kilometers (7,580 sq mi). Its subtropical climate and several decent size rivers make it a malarial-prone area – consume at one’s own risk. It is home to the Big Five, as well as over 140 species of mammals and 500 species of birds. A more substantial gallery of Kruger wildlife can be found here. The complete story is here.

  • A Matter of Scale September 11, 2022
On an outing to Montauk yesterday I was treated with whales, spinner dolphins in the distance and a few seals poking their head through the rolling surf, which had attracted many boards. The scale of that humpback (at least I think that’s a humpback) is mind-boggling when you compare it to the fish desperately attempting […]
