A Carousel in Dumbo
The new Brooklyn Bridge Park continues to innovate and recently saw the opening of a strange rotating attraction.
Jane's Carousel, DUMBO, Brooklyn
Jane's Carousel is an original 1922 piece donated to the people of the City of New York by the Walentas real estate tycoons. It has been carefully restored and will be operated year-round on the DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) waterfront. Encased in a mesmerizing all-glass cage that protects it from the elements and gives it a futuristic appearance, the carousel can be seen from all directions, spinning lazily, melancholic symbiosis of the old and the new. A sign of times, free open-air Wi-Fi is available in the surrounding park.

These pictures were shot with the new EF 24-105 mm f/4 L IS USM lens, an exceptional all-around passe-partout lens that has instantly gained my heart. They were developed with Adobe's brand new Lightroom 4 Beta which I am taking for a test run and loving already despite the unavoidable beta roughness.
And yes, I am in a slight artistic blur and vignette mood these days...
The Much Anticipated Canon 5D Mark III Hits the Streets
Some four years after the extremely successful Canon 5D Mark II full-frame DSLR camera was released, the 5D Mark III just hit the streets.
It will be competing head on with the new Nikon D800 and observers are expecting a good fight. While Nikon was perpetuating the sensor size hike up to 36MP, Canon has chosen instead to bank on improving quality and kept the sensor at 22MP; the company's obvious bet is that with a better sensor, users won't need the extra pixels.
The Canon 5D Mark III features the new DIGIC 5+ processor, improved AF and metering, an extended ISO range, intelligent viewfinder, 3.2" LCD and on-board multiple exposure and HDR modes. Here's what the respected dPreview had to say about a first hands-on preview.
It retails for three and a half grands. Ouch. I guess it's good to have something to dream about. Besides, I'm quite happy with my 7D at the present and can't even find the time to take her out. But some day, the 5D Mark III will be mine.
Ha! Jody foster!
The rare Panthera felis tecti in his native habitat! Well done, you!
The panther shot is exquisite! But I must admit my stupidity: Would you please explain the Jodie Foster reference?
Oh, sorry for the late reply! Jodie Foster in the movie Contact, was obsessed with extra-terrestrial life and is usually portrayed with the giant dishes of a radio telescope…
