Amazing Geoloc
June 12, 2005
76! That's the number of countries from which this - very - modest web site has received at least a visit, according to Geoloc's statistics (that's for the entire site, not only the blog.) It's amazing, and quite embarrassing. I'm going to have to learn a few more languages. In the meantime, my most humble and enthusiastic salutations to everybody. Thank you for visiting, however brief your stay. I hope you find something in here that will make you smile or travel a lit...
Up Before the Sun
June 11, 2005
Saturday morning, 5:00 am. I've been up for 3 hours already. Daylight has begun painting another steamy day and I'm hoping for a blazing red-ish sunrise through the morning haze. I drive around the countryside forever, looking for a silhouette, for a shape that would compel me to stop and set up the tripod. But as time passes by, the light increases and flattens out without giving the sun a chance to shine seriously. I end up snapping a few shots just for revenge, ...
The soaring fool is airborne again
June 6, 2005
It had been almost a year since I'd left the ground under my canopy, like a flea hoping off the back of an elephant. Now, that's way too long. So today I drove an hour east of Montreal to the mighty Mont Yamaska, a small hiccup on the flat expanse of the Eastern Townships, hoping for flyable conditions. It was a partial success. The winds were a little weak, from the southwest, facing the main launch pad. After waiting over an hour for some thermal activity to come our...
Good Bye Minnesota
June 3, 2005
I came, I saw, I photographed. It was Minnesota. Duluth turned out to be an interesting little town, and Lake Superior really is, well, superior. Especially discovered at the hands of a superior tour guide, listening to Coldplay and Keane. The month was extremely fun and went by so fast I'm still dizzy. And now I'm back in Quebec. Time to address part 2 of the Big Move. Getting a life. ;-) I've also resumed playing with my toys, and the photo I'm posting today i...
A Little Morning Mental Coffee
May 27, 2005
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain. [Bene Gesserit Litany]
Nighttime Through the Eyes of a Cat
May 23, 2005
Light is a subjective value. We wander through our lives selfishly assuming that the universe is actually like we see it. But our eyes are merely giving us a single rendering of its multiple faces. There probably are as many versions of the world as there are species out there able to perceive it (not to mention the fact that we can't even seem to agree upon a single reality within our own species...) Nighttime, for instance, must be completely different seen through t...
