I recently looked up Zipcar as a solution for the all-too-common New Yorker lack of wheels. I had seen the cars on Vancouver streets and heard good things about them. The rates for our New York area were on a par with most other major Zipcar hubs: around $70 daily for week days and $80 daily for week-ends, all other company advantages included.

I've implemented (through Cloudflare, but it can be done the good old way) a nifty experimental feature on this blog that allows you to highlight any word or expression in a post and by clicking on the little bubble that appears, get all kinds of useful information about it, starting with the Wikipedia definition if one exists - all in a neat popup window without leaving the blog!

It took me a while to get to it, but with the help of WordPress' awesome potential for customization, I've finally implemented a mobile-aware theme that should streamline and simplify your visit if you are visiting this blog on a phone.
Sadly, not owning a web-enabled phone myself, I am left to do my testing on an emulator - but as far as I can tell, it's working well. The WPTouch plugin I am using claims to be compatible with all common mobile devices, iPhone, Blackber...

That's it, the blog has moved to its new home. So far, I see no issues with WordPress. The main web site and its SlideShowPro-powered photo galleries are still struggling, however, because I'm not done updating the image caches - but that's ongoing. It's only a matter of uploading another... 16,000 files. Hick. I know, I know, it shows horribly poor maintenance skills on my part. Not all these files are needed. I'll setup a cron job asap. Point taken.

In early 2005, my first hosting provider was a little company out of New Orleans. A one man show, it offered me a friendly deal the first year and I took the bate. By the second year, Katrina had devastated Louisiana and, hungry, my host inflated the rates. While sympathizing with disaster victims, I was also infuriated by poor business ethics, and, not being so rich myself, I bailed.
